‘La La Land’ wins Best Picture, Musical or Comedy, at 2017 Golden Globe Awards
“La La Land” has won Best Picture, Musical or Comedy at the 74th Annual Golden Globe Awards tonight, Sunday, January 8, 2017, at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California. The yearly Golden Globe Awards are presented by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and honor the best in motion pictures and television for the prior calendar year. Jimmy Fallon was the host of the celebration, bringing his unique brand of humor to the event. The 74th Annual Golden Globe Awards ceremony was televised live on NBC.
“La La Land” is a film about Mia (Emma Stone), an aspiring actress, and Sebastian (Ryan Gosling), a dedicated jazz musician, who are struggling to make ends meet in a city known for crushing hopes and breaking hearts. Set in modern day Los Angeles, this original musical about everyday life explores the joy and pain of pursuing your dreams. The film was written and directed by Damien Chazelle (“Whiplash”).
This is the seventh Golden Globe Award that “La La Land” has won tonight. It was honored earlier for Best Actor, Comedy or Musical, to Ryan Gosling, Best Actress, Comedy or Musical, to Emma Stone, Best Director & Best Screenplay to Damien Chazelle, Best Original Song and Best Original Score to Justin Hurwitz.
“La La Land,” has been the favorite of film critics and has won accolades from the AFI Awards, New York Critics Circle Awards and won the People’s Choice Award at the Toronto Film Festival. The film is an early favorite to also win the Oscar for Best Picture for 2016.
